    Participants must be at least eight years old, and minors must be accompanied by an adult
    Snowshoes are provided free of charge, but cross-country skiers must provide their own equipment
    Reservations required. More Information or to register, contact Stacy Kronner at (530) 258-2141 

    Walks are 2 hours in duration.  Leaders will discuss basic winter survival skills, environmental education and local history.

    Tour destination varies depending on current snow conditions.  Locations include:  Morgan Summit, Locherman Canyon, Almanor Recreation Trail and the Pacific Crest Trail.

    Tours are geared for beginners, however they can be strenuous in deep snow or fresh powder

     Raptor Migrations: Rough-legged Hawks and Peregrine Falcons

    Jeff Kidd, of Kidd Biological, will discuss the results of his raptor migration research projects, which have tracked hawks and falcons in Alaska, Canada, California, Nevada, and Mexico. Jeff trapped Rough-legged Hawks in Plumas County and other locations in 2014-15 and affixed them with transmitters to track their migration timing and routes. Jeff also traveled to Alaska and Canada this summer to track the hawks from their breeding grounds. Peregrine Falcons were trapped in Plumas County and tracked to Mexico. Jeff will discuss the raptor migration routes and both summer and winter site fidelity.

    Also, join us in the field as Jeff Kidd will be trapping raptors for his continued research, focusing on Rough-legged Hawks, on Thursday, January 25 at Roberti Ranch in Sierra Valley.

    Winston Churchill comes to life with Richard Short's portrayal of this famous British leader.  Dick has selected the period of 1932 to 1945 for his presentation which includes a dialog and the actual speech Churchill gave to the American people in the 1930's.  Dick will go through the war years addressing the famous quotes which illustrated how Churchill became famous for his ability to use language to motivate, entertain, and inspire the people of Britain.  The event is free, though a $5.00+ donation is welcome to help fund MCRC.
