The Plumas Arts Gallery
535 Main Street
Quincy
5pm - 7pm

The Plumas Arts Gallery, hosts a reception featuring work by Randy Pew.

Randy Pew is a well-known figure in Indian Valley, where he ran Pew Forest Projects for 38.. His artistic side was discovered through his journey in recovering from life-threatening illness.

In the Fall of 2016 he was flown to Enloe Hospital with pneumonia, strep A and sepsis. Three more distressing hospital stays and another flight to the hospital followed. On his way through a difficult recuperation he was given exercises to help focus his mind and regain dexterity in his hands.

In June of 2017 he became tired of the card game and started doodling on scraps of paper. Scenery began to take shape - trees, mountains, rocks, and boulders - he was, after all, a logger for most of his life. From there he bought a couple of drawing pads, experimented with colored pencils and dabbled in watercolor. But he has returned to what he likes best: black ink on artist paper. Most images are landscapes from his imagination, influenced, no doubt, from decades of working in the woods.

Wheel Around Lake Almanor Handcycle Challenge
Lake Almanor
Elks Lodge #2626

(530) 258-9447

In memory of Randy Fossum , longtime Elk member and cofounder of the WALA ride, The ride name has been enhanced yo "TheRandy Fossum Memorial WALA Ride".

The 21st annual Wheel Around Lake Almanor Hand Cycle Endurance Challenge will again take on the 34 mile trek around Lake Almanor Sunday, September 16th.    The ride begins in Chester Ca. which is located at the base of Mt. Lassen in the beautiful northern California mountain range.

Past WALA chairman Randy Fossum, who passed away last year and had been a ride participant for the first 16 years, spoke about the sport of hand cycling and the local event.      " It's important that we all understand that this is not a race to see who wins - it's all about the wheelers setting personal goals and meeting the challenge of the 34 mile route.    The hand cyclists of WALA face challenges every day of their lives, whether that is paraplegia, quadriplegia, spina bifida, cerebral palsy or the loss of both legs. But , on one special day of the year, they rise to meet the challenge and hand cycle or wheelchair around Lake Almanor, They do so because they have a deep commitment to helping others," he said.

In addition to the Sunday morning endurance challenge, WALA offers a Saturday evening dinner and an event day breakfast and lunch for the participants.

While the primary participants are hand cyclists,   everyone is encouraged to ride for this cause.    A separate registration form will be made available to any cycler who would like to ride and support the wheelchair athletes.    The general cost to the public to join the race is $34, One dollar for each mile around Lake Almanor.
Over the past 21 years WALA has provided support for dozens of individuals in need and to community agencies that provide other needed support in the lake Almanor area.   Pledges made to riders and community contributions, both local and from across the nation have exceeded $80,000 over the rides history.
