Chester

Chester

Chester, known as a Gateway Community to Lassen Volcanic National park, lies at the base of Lassen Peak and near the shores of Lake Almanor.  This charming community is the main business hub for the Lake Almanor Basin and home to the Volcanos, the Chester High School sports teams.

Nestled along the banks of the Feather River, Chester's unique shops, parks, museums, and library provide the backdrop for many annual events, art shows, concerts, bike rides, car shows, and holiday celebrations.

A favorite for community and visitors alike is the annual 4th of July Celebration with a parade down Main Street, the 5K Fun Run, and the Fireworks Show over Lake Almanor that creates a spectacular display to end the day.

Chester also hosts the Martin Ranch community which lies in a pristine meadow off Feather River Drive.  Further up Feather River Drive, lies the Warner Valley which backs up to Lassen Volcanic National Park and the world famous Drakesbad Guest Ranch.  Quaint summer homes and camping areas dot the beautiful meadows, forests and streams of the area.

Chester is also a great stop on Highway 36, when traveling the southern portion of the Volcanic Legacy Scenic Byway. Chester offers a wide range of amenities for the traveler or outdoor enthusiasts. Overnight visitors to Chester can choose from a wide range of motels, vacation rentals, bed and breakfast inns and campgrounds. A variety of restaurants are available for breakfast, lunch or dinner.

Visit the Chester/Lake Almanor Chamber of Commerce website or stop in at B&B Booksellers and Cravings at 278 Main Street in Chester for brochures and visitor guides of the area.  Chester and the Lake Almanor Basin is well worth a stop for a few days or longer. Many residents of the Lake Almanor Basin first visited when on vacation and now make the area their summer get-a-way or have moved here al year-round residents.

Chester and the surrounding area are full with an array of diverse outdoor activities to enjoy. Make sure to plan time to visit Lassen Volcanic National Park, Lake Almanor for water sports or fishing, Lassen National forest for camping, backroad exploring, fishing or hunting. Golfing is available on the Peninsula or West Shore of Lake Almanor.  Downtown Chester has some very unique shopping, an old fashion soda fountain and a great little museum to wander.
