a vintage gem in the heart of the Feather River Canyon
Belden
The town of officially originated in 1905 with the construction of the Western Pacific Railroad. Thanks to its railroad stop, Belden became the base for fishing and hunting excursions and became a thriving township in the early 1900’s. Located in the heart of Feather River Canyon, on the Feather River Scenic Byway just 28 miles west of Quincy.
Prior to the establishment of Belden, the area was populated by gold miners, a few small farmers, and a small Maidu village. Today, it is a hot spot for alternative arts and music festivals. Belden is accessed by a one-lane bridge built in 1937 that crosses the Feather River. It might be one of the world’s most unique bridges with two martini glasses beckoning visitors to stop.
The Takeaway
Whether you’re passing by on an outdoor adventure or a scenic road trip, Belden is one of the canyon’s nearly-hidden treasures worth taking time to explore.
This is a popular stopping point for Pacific Crest Trail hikers. The Belden Resort will accept packages for PCT hikers.
Belden Town Resort and Lodge offers a small store, campgrounds, RV Hook-ups, cabins, restaurant, bar, lodge, and an outside deck overlooking the N. Fork Feather River in all its natural beauty and sounds.
