Forest Therapy

Join Mental Health Services and the English Department as we welcome Blake Ellis from Chico State University to put this year’s Book in Common into practice with a Forest Therapy Workshop practicing Shinrin Yoku.

What is Forest Therapy?

Forest Therapy is a professionally guided practice that supports health and well-being by immersing participants in nature in a mindful, intentional way. Rooted in the Japanese practice of Shinrin-yoku (or “Forest Bathing”), this research-backed approach helps reduce stress, enhance wellness, and deepen our connection with the natural world.

Unlike a hike or a naturalist walk, Forest Therapy is about slowing down, awakening the senses, and engaging with nature at a relaxed, meditative pace. A certified guide leads the experience, offering gentle invitations that help participants connect with their surroundings in a way that feels authentic to them. There’s no right or wrong way—just come as you are.
