A relaxed vibe with an outdoorsy community that knows how to enjoy life
Upon exiting the Feather River Canyon, Highway 70 opens up to the beautiful American Valley with Quincy tucked away at its southern edge. This enchanting, quaint town has a walkable, historic downtown, serves as the county seat, and is the largest community in the county.
The community’s strong commitment to the arts means you’re bound to find gallery openings, performances, or live music on any given weekend throughout the year. To get a sense of Quincy’s quirky, fun-loving side, be sure to visit during the Groundhog Fever Festival in February, the Mountain Harvest Beer Festival in October, or Sparkle in December. Drop by the weekly community market in summer to soak up Quincy’s small-town charm.
Quincy is the closest town to Bucks Lake, a popular destination for year-round outdoor adventures. It also boasts numerous exceptional mountain biking and hiking trails just a short distance from town.
The Takeaway
Stay in Quincy for a convenient hub for exploring South Central Plumas County and to uncover the joys of small-town living.
Also, if you’re looking for a leisurely nature walk close to Quincy try the Feather River Land Trust Leonhardt trail which takes you into the wide-open spaces of American Valley, or walk along the river at Gansner Park. Both also include interpretive signage.
Pick-up a walking tour brochure at the Plumas County Museum just behind the Courthouse on Jackson Street or download a copy. Stroll the main streets of downtown Quincy, taking in the murals and historical architecture of the buildings.
