Big Boy 4014

Union Pacific’s Famed “Big Boy”

The Feather River Rail Society is pleased to announce that on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, we will be hosting a visit by Union Pacific’s famed “Big Boy” No. 4014, the world’s largest operating steam locomotive!

The “Union Pacific Coast to Coast” tour will stop on April 8 in Portola, California, providing a unique opportunity to view the locomotive at the Western Pacific Railroad Museum.

This will be a rare chance for you to see this awesome locomotive in person. In addition, the WPRM will be providing several special activities on that day, including:

· Caboose train rides

· Motorcar rides

· Tours of historic equipment

The museum will open at 9:00 AM and close at 5:30 PM on the day of the event. Train rides will begin at 10:30 AM. Parking is limited at the museum.

Access to view the “Big Boy” requires admission to the museum. Admission includes caboose train and motorcar rides. Feather River Rail Society members are free with their membership cards. Members must bring their membership cards to get entry wristbands at the gate.

Advanced admission can be purchased online from the links on the https://wplives.org/…/2026_Union_Pacific_Big_Boy_4014.html website. When you purchase your admission, PRINT OUT YOUR RECEIPT AFTER CHECKOUT. This receipt is your ticket. Present it at the entry gate and get your wristband(s) for admission to the event. Entry to the museum and “Big Boy” viewing area WILL require a wristband.

Advance-purchase admission for non-members is $20 for general adults and $10 for those aged 5-18, 65 and over, and active military. Children 4 and under are free.
