Bizz Johnson National Recreation Non-Motorized Trail

The Bizz Johnson Trail runs from Susanville to Mason Station in Westwood. The trial is a rail-to-trail conversion. Formerly, the trail was part of the Fernley and Lassen Branch Line of the Southern Pacific Railroad.

Trail Features

  • The first 16 miles follow the Susan River
  • Crosses the Susan River 12 times on bridges and trestles
  • Passes through two tunnels
  • Terrain: Semi-arid canyon and upland forests of pine and fir
  • Views: Susan River Canyon and the surrounding mountains

The Bizz Johnson Trail offers a variety of activities, including:

Trail Maintenance

To help prevent damage, please avoid using the trail when wet or muddy. This helps avoid leaving deep bike ruts, footprint imprints, and holes caused by horse hooves. There are no fees required. Please pack out what you pack in along the trail. Regulations are in effect along the trail to protect natural resources and provide a safe recreation experience for all. Please obey posted signs and share the trails.
