During this workshop, you’ll learn the traditional craft of rug braiding, from preparing the repurposed wool materials to making smooth braids that won’t become dirt catchers. Additionally, you will be taught the secret behind constructing a flat rug using the correct lacing method.
If you have a portable sewing machine, please bring it along, as it’s essential for adding new strips. Don’t worry if you don’t have one – just let us know beforehand, and we’ll have one ready for you.
We’ll provide the wool fabric to make a small rug, but you can also start building your stash of recycled wool by scouting your local thrift stores. We’ll provide you with information on selecting and preparing the material with your workshop confirmation.
The goal of the workshop is to get you started, learn the basic process, and create a community of self-sufficient braiders. You’ll probably complete 1-2 sq ft of rug and go home with the confidence and supplies to finish on your own. Don’t miss this chance to learn a new skill!
