Brokeoff Mountain Trail: A True Lassen Volcanic Park Gem

The Brokeoff Mountain Trail offers a challenging but unforgettable hiking experience in Lassen Volcanic Park. Its stunning scenery, volcanic landscapes, and sense of solitude make it a must-do for adventurous hikers exploring the park’s hidden gems, even though the trailhead is just before the kiosk and the Koh-Yah-mah-nee Visitor Center.

Overview

The Brokeoff Mountain Trail is one of Lassen Volcanic Park’s most rewarding hikes. It is the second-highest peak in the park and is celebrated for its stunning vistas, diverse volcanic landscapes, and relative solitude. This challenging trek leads hikers to the summit of Brokeoff Mountain, a prominent peak offering panoramic views of the park’s volcanic features, including the caldera of the old Brokeoff Volcano, Lassen Peak, Chaos Crags, and Diller. Standing in one spot, you can get a full 360-degree view.

Trail Features

  •  Breathtaking scenery with views of volcanic peaks, lava flows, and alpine meadows.
  •  The summit of Brokeoff Mountain provides 360-degree views of Lassen Peak, Chaos Jumbles, Cinder Cone, and other volcanic landmarks.
