Lakes Basin

Big Bear Lake

Welcome to the Lakes Basin Recreation Area of Plumas County, California. South of Graeagle, the Lakes Basin Recreation Area contains dozens of great fishing lakes, most of them accessible by hiking and horse trails. Gold Lake, the largest, has a boat landing and nearby camping. A number of quaint lakeside lodges in the area offer rustic accommodations and fine dining. Formed by glaciers and filled with remnants of the gold rush, the Lakes Basin area offers pristine camping, hiking and mountain biking.

The Gold Lake Highway through the Lakes Basin area is not plowed during the winter, making it a popular playground for snowmobilers and cross-country skiers. Click here for a map of the Lakes Basin Recreation Area.

The Gold Lake Boat Launch Facility has recently been repaired and upgraded. It has a two lane boat ramp with floating dock, expanded parking, day use area, solar lighting, vault toilets and trash pickup.

There is also a small launch area at the dam for hand launching of small craft. This launch has a gravel launch area, day use area, and vault toilet available.
