Summer Camps

A rural retreat with mountains, lakes and fresh air make Plumas County an idyllic setting for summer camp. Some are just for kids, and others are geared for entire families. Contact the camps below to make reservations or to receive more information:

Greenhorn Creek Guest Ranch. A Western-style family camp east of Quincy  with easy access to swimming holes, lakes, streams, hiking and horseback trails. Modern facility with heated swimming pool, lodge rooms and cabins, complete meal service, recreation room, Jacuzzi, petting farm, stables and trout pond. Visitors can enjoy hayrides, barbecues, amateur rodeo, square dancing, horseback riding, and other recreation. (800) 33-HOWDY

Sierra Nevada Journeys at Grizzly Creek Ranch
  Sierra Nevada Journeys is a Reno-based nonprofit organization working to inspire and empower youth through engaging hands-on science and outdoor education. Offering Summer Camps (overnight and day camps) at Grizzly Creek Ranch campus just east of Portola. Campers (aged 7-17) combine traditional summer camp with experiential and educational activities including kayaking, hiking, fishing, ropes/challenge course, archery, swimming, arts and crafts, and more. Campers stay in furnished cabins, the Tipi Village, or camping on our Survival Camp or Backcountry Ecology and Leadership Course (for teens). Feather River Camp. Operating since 1924, a vacation destination for families, children and adults seeking relaxation, recreation, fun and friendship.  Operated by Camps in Common with an agreement with the City of Oakland. This 50-acre site is located in the Plumas National Forest just outside of Quincy. Week-long family and youth camps offer plenty of activities for everyone at every age - arts and crafts, games, nature hikes during the day. (510) 336-2267

Shaffer's High Sierra Summer Camps  Summer camp is for kids 9 to 16 and offers a traditional camp program but with an emphasis on noncompetitive, largely team-based wilderness adventure activities. We've designed a fun, stress-free program where kids can get away, have fun, spend time with friends, and participate in great activities. (800) 516-3513

Walton's Grizzly Lodge. This summer camp for children ages 7-14 is located on a secluded, 50-acre forested site with a private lake near Portola. Founded in 1926, it is run by third-generation camp directors. Two-week sessions include water skiing, windsurfing, fishing, sailing, ropes course, horseback riding, arts and crafts, campfire programs, archery, air rifle, and sports such as volleyball, softball, soccer, tennis, golf and gymnastics.  (530) 832-4834
