Long Lake Loop

Tucked into the Lakes Basin Recreation Area near Clio, the Long Lake Loop Trail offers a scenic and satisfying half-day adventure. This 4.7-mile loop begins at the Long Lake/Bear Lake Trailhead and immediately immerses you in alpine charm. The route meanders around the crystal-clear waters of Long Lake, climbs through rocky terrain past Mud Lake, and delivers sweeping views of the granite-strewn hillsides that define this region.

This trail showcases a high-country feel without requiring a strenuous effort. In early summer, the area bursts to life with vibrant wildflowers, and hikers are often treated to views of mirror-like reflections on the lake. A few sections offer short but steep climbs over loose rock, so sturdy shoes are a good idea. Mornings and weekdays provide the best chance for solitude.
