Sport utility
vehicle owners take note! Plumas County
has plenty of
well-maintained, unpaved forest service roads
that lead to lakes, look-outs and picnic sites.
The roads access some 1.2 million acres of
public land that can keep intrepid explorers
happy for days on end.
The Plumas County Visitors Bureau has
developed brochures featuring four popular
backcountry road adventures, designed with SUV's
in mind.
If you're looking for more
rugged off-highway adventure, head for one of
the 4X4 routes, staging areas or campgrounds
developed specifically for off-highway vehicles.
A
Summer OHV map detailing 83 routes and 2,600
miles within the Plumas National Forest, is now
available. To avoid fines, stay on
designated roads and trails and get the most up
to date regulations.
Presently there are no ATV
rental services but
High Sierra ATV Tours, (800) 596-8840,
offers guided rides to scenic destinations near
Frenchman Lake throughout the year. Many
snowmobile routes in the Plumas National Forest
are closed to ATV's.
Sierra
Touring Company (53 0)
832-5450 offers 2 - 3 hour guided tours in
Sierra Valley (part of the Diamond S Ranch) from
the valley floor to the slopes of Beckwourth
Peak with a BBQ included. |
