Silver Lake to Spanish Peak

Embark on a backcountry adventure along the Silver Lake to Spanish Creek Trail, a 7.0-mile out-and-back route near Meadow Valley, California. This challenging hike rewards those willing to take on the elevation gain with a rich blend of alpine forest, rugged granite outcroppings, and the soothing sounds of flowing water as you make your descent toward Spanish Creek.

The trail begins at the serene shoreline of Silver Lake and steadily climbs through high country terrain before dropping into the Spanish Creek drainage. Along the way, you’ll encounter towering conifers, fern-lined paths, and scenic glimpses of the surrounding wilderness. It’s a great trail for hikers seeking solitude, birdwatching opportunities, or an overnight backpacking trip deeper into the Plumas National Forest.

Because of its terrain and distance, this hike is best tackled by experienced hikers or those ready for a more strenuous outing. Snow may linger on the trail into early summer, so check conditions in advance.
